Fractional DevOps & Advisory
Embedded senior DevOps expertise without a full-time hire. Architecture reviews, mentoring, hiring help and on-call backup — part-time, ongoing, remote.
What the retainer covers
- 8–10 hours per week, ongoing. Billed monthly. No minimum commitment beyond the first month — cancel anytime.
- Architecture and cost reviews — a second set of eyes on infrastructure decisions before they become expensive mistakes.
- PR review and mentoring — infrastructure-as-code, pipeline changes and operational patterns. Your team learns while shipping.
- On-demand crisis response — when something is down and your team is out of its depth, I join the incident call.
- Help hiring your first platform engineer — job description, screening questions and interview design. I've trained 800+ engineers across 12 cohorts; I know what to look for.
When fractional makes sense
A full-time senior DevOps hire costs $150K–200K+ in the US and takes 3–6 months to find. Fractional gives you the seniority now, in the volume you actually need, while you build the case for a permanent role — or realise you don't need one yet.
This works best for teams of 5–25 engineers who have a product shipping but no dedicated platform or infrastructure function. You get the architecture decisions, the cost discipline and the on-call backup — at a fraction of a full-time hire.
How it works
We agree on a recurring slot each week. I join your Slack, attend your standups and work from your backlog. You get a senior engineer embedded in the team without the overhead of recruiting, onboarding and employing one.
